CORE: Get to the Heart of the Sport
I had the opportunity to go to the World Premier of the new CORE climbing Film: Get to the Heart of the Sport, this past week. This was shot and produced by Chuck Fryberger, who put a very creative twist on climbing using unique camera angles, making for really interesting shots, and highlighting the landscape beautifully in this footage; shot from across Europe, Africa and America.
He highlighted the struggles of climbers from the ultra famous rich European world tour climbers to the non-sponsored job holding climbers who still climb some of the hardest lines around the world just for the pure joy of it. And of across there was everything including the poor professional sponsored lifestyle that is more commonly associated with the sports.
I think that they movie was really entertaining and certainly got your blood pumping. It contained a lot of bouldering, which usually I don’t find that interesting but the problems were so unique and mixed in with trad and sport climbing that I thought it flowed really well. Also it showed how hard it is for even these top climbers to be able to accomplish the goals that they have set for themselves instead of just showing the final red point ascent without the perseverance and commitment they need. Also as I stated earlier Fryberger did a really good job of catching unique angles and making really creative artistic shots that make it very entertaining.
I would suggest checking out the CORE website and seeing when it is coming to a town near you so you can see Nalle Hukkataival, Matt Wilder, Fred Nicole, Kevin Jorgeson, Bj Tilden and more climbing routes and problem that will really blow your mind.
Cheers!
